What is Smart Filter?

Smart Filter is a browser extension for Google Chrome 120 or later on a computer. Smart Filter hides, blurs or dims items on web pages that match a rule. An item is a post, a video, a comment, a search result, a listing, a review or a job ad. Smart Filter folds a hidden item into a Hidden line with a Show button, so one click shows the item again. Smart Filter is installed from the Chrome Web Store and needs no account.

Which sites does Smart Filter work on?

Smart Filter works on 11 sites out of the box: Reddit, YouTube, X, Google Search, Hacker News, Amazon, Airbnb, eBay, Etsy, Bluesky and Indeed. On other sites, Smart Filter finds the repeated items on the page itself, and the user can pick one item when it finds the wrong ones. Smart Filter never runs AI rules on email, chat and banking sites such as Gmail, Outlook, WhatsApp Web, Slack and Discord. Keyword rules work on those sites.

What rules does Smart Filter have?

Smart Filter has keyword rules and AI rules. A keyword rule is a list of words and phrases, such as crypto*, nft, where * stands for any letters and ? for one letter. Keyword rules run on the user's device. An AI rule describes a kind of item in plain English in up to 200 characters, such as rage bait, clickbait titles or spoilers for Severance. Up to 10 AI rules run on one site. Each AI rule has a sensitivity: Only clear cases, Balanced or Catch more. A rule hides, blurs or dims its matches, or shows only the items that match it. A rule runs on one site, on all sites or on a saved set of sites.

What does Smart Filter cost?

Smart Filter is free to install, and keyword rules are free with no limit. AI rules use credits. One credit checks one item against one AI rule, so a post checked against 3 AI rules costs 3 credits. Items Smart Filter has already checked are not charged again. A new install gets up to 10,000 credits to start. When the credits are used up, AI rules pause and keyword rules keep working.

  • Light plan: $5 a month, 75,000 credits a month, billed $10 every 2 months.
  • Standard plan: $8 a month, 150,000 credits a month, billed $16 every 2 months.
  • Pro plan: $19 a month, 500,000 credits a month, billed monthly.
  • Max plan: $29 a month, 1,000,000 credits a month, billed monthly.
  • Top-up: 75,000 credits for $10, one time. Top-up credits never expire.

Polar Software Inc. sells the plans and the top-up as merchant of record. A licence key from the purchase activates the credits in the extension. The pricing section and the terms state the same prices.

What data does Smart Filter send?

Keyword rules send nothing. Rules, saved sets and keyword matches stay in the browser. AI rules send data only after the user agrees in the extension. For each item, Smart Filter then sends the AI rule and up to 400 characters of the item's text, with a random install ID and the extension version. Smart Filter does not send the user's name, accounts or the page address. Smart Filter's server, a Cloudflare Worker, passes the text through Cloudflare AI Gateway to Jev, a classification model of TypeSafe AI, Inc. Smart Filter does not store item text. "Delete my data" in the extension's settings deletes the install's data on the server. The privacy policy has the details.

What does Smart Filter not do?

Smart Filter does not remove whole parts of a page, such as the YouTube Shorts shelf, YouTube recommendations or the X sidebar. Smart Filter does not change timelines, tabs or buttons on X. Smart Filter does not read images, thumbnails, videos or transcripts. Smart Filter does not run in the Reddit, YouTube or X apps or on phones. Keyword rules do not take regular expressions. An AI rule judges text and can be wrong, which is why every hidden item keeps a Show button.

How does Smart Filter differ from Unhook, BlockTube, Control Panel for Twitter and PureFeed?

Unhook removes parts of the YouTube page. BlockTube blocks YouTube videos by keyword, regular expression, channel and video length. Control Panel for Twitter changes how the X interface works. PureFeed scores posts on fixed measures such as negativity. Smart Filter hides items that match keyword rules or AI rules the user writes, on 11 sites out of the box and on other sites. The comparisons with Unhook, BlockTube, Control Panel for Twitter and PureFeed were checked on 13 October 2026 against each extension's Chrome Web Store listing, website or repository.
