The keyword blocker in short
Smart Filter blocks keywords with keyword rules: a list of words and phrases such as crypto*, nft, elon musk. It hides, blurs or dims each post, video, comment or result whose text contains one of them. Keyword rules are free, have no limit and run on your device, so nothing is sent. Matching ignores case and works on whole words; * stands for any letters and ? for one. A rule runs on one site, on a set of sites or on all sites. Reddit, YouTube, X, Google, Hacker News, Amazon, Airbnb, eBay, Etsy, Bluesky and Indeed work out of the box, and on other sites Smart Filter finds the repeated items itself.
How keyword rules match
One rule holds a whole list. The patterns are simple on purpose: no regular expressions to get wrong.
Lists and phrases
Separate words with commas: crypto, nft, elon musk. A phrase matches as written, word for word.
Whole words
cat hides posts about a cat, not posts about a category. Upper and lower case do not matter.
Wildcards
* stands for any letters: crypto* also hides cryptocurrency and cryptography. ? stands for one letter: gr?y matches grey and gray.
Where it runs
On one site, on a set of sites, or on all sites. Each rule can hide, blur or dim, and every hidden item keeps a Show button.
When words are not enough
Some things have no keyword: rage bait, clickbait, a spoiler that never names the show. An AI rule describes them in plain words instead.
AI rules
Write what you mean, such as posts about the election or clickbait titles. See the clickbait filter and how to hide spoilers.
Both together
Keyword rules and AI rules run side by side. Use keywords where the words are fixed and AI rules for the rest.
Keyword rules people start with
Each site has its own words. These are examples; the site pages list more for Reddit, YouTube, X and Amazon.

Blocking keywords: common questions
Is the keyword blocker free?
Yes. Keyword rules are free with no limit, and they run on your device. Only AI rules use credits.
Does crypto* also hide cryptography?
Yes. * stands for any letters, so crypto* matches every word that starts with crypto. To be narrower, list the words you mean, such as crypto, cryptocurrency.
Does a keyword match parts of words?
No. Words match whole, so cat does not hide category. Add * where you want more, as in cat*.
Is it case-sensitive?
No. Crypto, crypto and CRYPTO all match the same rule.
Which sites does it work on?
Every site. Reddit, YouTube, X, Google, Hacker News, Amazon, Airbnb, eBay, Etsy, Bluesky and Indeed work out of the box. On other sites Smart Filter finds the repeated items itself, and you can point at one item if it guesses wrong.
What if a keyword is not enough?
Use an AI rule. AI rules come with up to 10,000 credits to start, and one credit checks one item against one AI rule. They send the rule and up to 400 characters of each item to Smart Filter's server, and only after you agree. See pricing and the privacy policy.
