The clickbait filter in short

Smart Filter hides clickbait, titles that hold back the point so that you click, with the AI rule clickbait titles. It checks each video, post and search result on YouTube, Reddit, X, Google, Hacker News and other sites; clickbait titles is a suggested rule on YouTube. Clickbait changes its words all the time, so a keyword list catches little of it. The AI rule reads each title the way you would, from up to 400 characters of the item's own text. A match folds into a Hidden line with a Show button, or is blurred or dimmed. Thumbnails are not read.

Clickbait has no keyword

Clickbait is a way of writing, not a topic. A list of bait words catches a few titles and hides honest ones that use the same words.

An AI rule judges what a title is trying to do. It can be wrong, which is why every hidden item keeps its Show button.

Filtering clickbait: common questions

How do I block clickbait on YouTube?

Open YouTube, click the Smart Filter icon and add the suggested rule clickbait titles. Each video is checked by its title as the page loads, and the matches fold into a Hidden line with a Show button, or fade if you choose Dim.

Can a keyword list stop clickbait?

Only a little. Clickbait changes its words, so a list catches a few titles and hides honest ones. An AI rule judges what a title is trying to do instead. Keyword rules still help for fixed phrases such as you won't believe*.

Does it read thumbnails?

No. Rules read an item's text: a video's title and channel, a post's text, a result's title and snippet. A thumbnail with a shocked face and an honest title stays.

How many credits does the clickbait filter use?

Keyword rules use none. AI rules come with up to 10,000 credits to start, and one credit checks one video or post against one AI rule. Items you have seen before are not charged again. Plans and top-ups add more.

What does the extension send?

AI rules send the rule and up to 400 characters of each item's text to Smart Filter's server, and only after you agree. Your accounts and the page address are not part of it, and nothing is sent to the sites you filter. See the privacy policy.
