Hiding politics in short
Smart Filter hides political posts, replies, videos and search results on X, Reddit, YouTube and Google with one rule. The AI rule election news is suggested on X and Reddit; keyword rules such as election*, ballot* match words only. An AI rule checks what a post is about, so it also hides posts about a race, a poll or a debate that never say election. The rule applies to every side: posts about Trump hides praise and criticism alike. The AI can be wrong in either direction, so every hidden post keeps a Show button.
Why muting keywords misses most political posts
Muted words and keyword blockers hide a post only when it contains the word. Most election posts never say election: they name a race, a poll, a state or a debate.
Keyword list
election*, vote*, ballot*- Polls open at 7 am tomorrow. Check your ballot and your polling place tonight.
- Early turnout in Arizona is already ahead of 2022.
- Neither candidate answered a single question at last night's debate.
- The Senate race in Ohio is a toss-up in the new forecast.

A keyword list needs every name, race and slogan, and it still hides posts that only use the word in passing, like a vote for the best pizza in town. An AI rule judges what a post is about. It can be wrong, which is why every hidden post keeps its Show button. Keyword rules stay useful for names and fixed phrases, and they are free.
Rules that work for every side
Smart Filter takes no side. A rule describes a topic, and each post is checked against your description, whoever wrote it: posts about Trump
hides praise and criticism alike. Want the news but not the shouting? Use political rage bait
instead of election news
.

YouTube

Google and other sites
Google Search results, Bluesky and Hacker News work out of the box. Set a rule to All sites and it runs on news sites and forums too.
How to hide politics in four steps
- Add Smart Filter to Chrome. It is free, and keyword rules work right away. Add to Chrome
- Open X, Reddit, YouTube or Google and click the Smart Filter icon. On X and Reddit, election news is one of the suggested rules: one click adds it.
- Or type your own rule. Pick AI rule, type something like political rage bait, then choose Hide, Blur or Dim, and This site or All sites.
- Agree once to AI rules. An AI rule sends post text to be checked, so Smart Filter asks first. After the election, switch the rule off in the popup, or keep your rules in a set and switch the whole set off.
Hiding politics: common questions
How do I hide politics on Twitter / X?
Install Smart Filter, open x.com and click its icon. Add the suggested rule election news, or type your own, such as political rage bait. Matching posts and replies fold into a Hidden line as the timeline loads, and Show brings one back.
How do I mute election posts on Reddit?
Open Reddit, click the Smart Filter icon and add election news. It hides matching posts and comments in every subreddit, on new and old Reddit. Reddit's own mute works on whole communities, not on a topic across them.
How do I hide political videos on YouTube?
Add an AI rule such as political videos for youtube.com or for all sites. Smart Filter judges each video by its title and channel name on the home page, in search, in the sidebar and in Shorts.
Why do muted words miss political posts?
Muted words hide posts that contain the exact word. Most political posts never say election: they name a race, a poll or a debate. An AI rule checks what a post is about, so one rule covers wording you would never think to list.
Does Smart Filter take a political side?
No. A rule describes a topic, and Smart Filter checks each post against your description, whoever wrote it. A rule like posts about Trump hides praise and criticism alike. The AI can be wrong in either direction, so every hidden post keeps a Show button.
Is hiding politics free?
Keyword rules such as election*, ballot* are free with no limit. AI rules come with up to 10,000 credits to start; one credit checks one post against one AI rule. A busy feed uses credits fast, so plans start at $5 a month.
What is sent when an AI rule checks a post?
Nothing for keyword rules. For AI rules, and only after you agree: the rule and up to 400 characters of each post's text, with a random install ID. Your accounts and the page address are not sent, and AI rules never run on email, chat or banking sites. Details are in the privacy policy.
