The Bluesky filter in short
Smart Filter checks each post in your Bluesky feeds and on profiles, and each reply when you open a thread, on bsky.app. A post is read by its author's name and handle and its text, up to 400 characters; in a reply, a quoted post or link card counts as part of it. The post you opened stays visible. A keyword rule such as follow back* matches words; an AI rule such as political dunks describes a kind of post. A match folds into a Hidden line with a Show button, or is blurred or dimmed. It works in Chrome on a computer, not in the Bluesky apps.

Filtering Bluesky: common questions
How do I hide political posts on Bluesky?
Open bsky.app, click the Smart Filter icon and add the suggested rule political dunks, or describe what you want gone, such as posts about the election. Each post is checked as it loads, and the matches fold into a Hidden line with a Show button. See also how to hide politics on other sites.
How is this different from muted words on Bluesky?
Muted words hide posts that contain a word or tag you list in Bluesky's settings. Smart Filter adds AI rules that describe a kind of post, keyword rules with * and ? wildcards, and a Show button on every hidden post. Both can run together.
Does it filter replies?
Yes. When you open a post, each reply is checked on its own, quoted posts and link cards included. The post you opened stays visible.
How many credits does a Bluesky feed use?
Keyword rules use none. AI rules come with up to 10,000 credits to start, and one credit checks one post against one AI rule: a feed of 30 posts and one AI rule uses up to 30 credits. Posts you have seen before are not charged again. Plans and top-ups add more.
Does Bluesky see that I filter?
No. Smart Filter changes the page only in your browser and sends nothing to Bluesky. AI rules send the rule and up to 400 characters of each post to Smart Filter's server, and only after you agree; your Bluesky account and the page address are not part of it. See the privacy policy.
